As of June 2, 2023, a successful scholarship examination was conducted for students in the Dickoya District. This initiative aimed to empower deserving students with financial assistance and support their academic journey, particularly those who have faced socio-economic challenges. The program, facilitated by the Department of Education, includes provisions for the recruitment of qualified educators and administrative staff to ensure effective implementation. Furthermore, this effort includes the establishment of specialized institutions to serve students with disabilities, ensuring they receive the necessary educational support. Recognizing the importance of inclusive education, this initiative strives to provide equal opportunities for all students, irrespective of their background. In addition to the above, scholarships have been awarded to 190 students from Galle District, 60 students from Matale District, and 152 students from Hambantota District, totaling 402 scholarships. Each scholarship recipient will receive Rs. 18,000.00 annually, totaling Rs. 7.2 million in financial support to enable access to education in their respective areas. The formal award ceremony for the 2023 scholarships will be held on June 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Auditorium of the Dickoya District Secretariat, under the supervision of Dr. Willy Gamagé, the Chief Administrator of Dickoya District, within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Honorable Minister Bimal Indrajith Silva, accompanied by Secretary of Education, Culture, and Sports Services, Mrs. Kamashi Rasicah.
